A MUST-HAVE FOR EVERY CAMPER

by Dan McCartney | 5 min read 2023-02-09 | #travel #camping #motorhome

More and more people are looking for an adventure without the risk and environmental damage of travelling by plane. But most people have no idea of the risks they face.

I can't believe that 95% of my camping friends didn't know about the danger of NOT dealing with this one problem BEFORE they start their trips...

I know I was totally unaware! Here's how I found out. About a year ago, I was staying in an abandoned campsite near Lake Annecy in Eastern France, enjoying my time with my 8-year old son.

The weather was great, the sun was shining, the mountains were beautiful, but I had some work to finish on my laptop.

During the trip I’d been using my phone as a WI-FI hotspot... So, as the evening drew in, I sat working on my laptop. I was using my phone's internet connection. As time went on I noticed my laptop's battery was around 5% and my phone's was approaching zero.

No worries” I thought “I'll just fire up the motorhome and charge from the plugs

My worst nightmare happened

I put in the keys, turned the ignition... and my worst nightmare happened. It wouldn’t start.

Matthew (my 8-year old son) was fast asleep in his bed, as I was trying to fix the now-critical motorhome.

Picture this – you're in the middle of nowhere, alone, at night, in an area well-known for its relatively high crime rate (especially for crimes against travellers). With no internet connection, no clue how to fix your motorhome, and no other campers in the campsite.

As the panic started rising, I remembered a news story I’d read about a gruesome murder and robbery of four British tourists 30 miles away.1

After 30 or 40 minutes of pondering the worst case scenarios (while still attempting to fix my dead RV), I heard a car approaching. My heart rate jumped as the sound got louder and louder. Pictures of the news story raced through my mind.

"Help me God", I thought. Luckily, it was one of the national park managers who was overseeing the area. He connected his truck to my RV and gave me a jump start, which meant I could then charge my devices.

Had I not met this helpful stranger on my trip, I'm not sure I would be writing this article

By the way, this is me – I’m Dan, a 43-year old traveller photographer from Brighton, UK. I love travelling, camping, photographing and exploring new parts of the world. I also have a blog where I share my travel experiences.

So, why am I telling you this?

Had I known about the device I'm about to show you, I wouldn't have put myself and my son in a crazy amount of danger.

And I also wouldn't have received a network roaming bill for over a thousand pounds once I got home (unbelievable, I know)

Now, I want to warn other campers and travellers not to make the same mistakes I did.

Because those mistakes could cost you, not only a lot of money, but your life.

So what is the safest way to camp?

I realised that if I want to be safe out there, I have to have a reliable internet connection. I use my smartphone and laptop all the time. I'm reliant on being able to charge them whenever I need to. And even though I take care of my RV, there's always the risk that something will happen to it. So a separate device that can help me stay in touch in an emergency is vital.

I began searching on the internet for a portable WI-FI solution for travellers and campers.

And I came across this revolutionary new device called Ryoko.

This device NOT ONLY saves your phone's battery and means you avoid all the roaming fees you normally get hit with when travelling abroad. It also avoids the network limitations you get with 98% of mobile phones, and makes finding a solid signal a piece of cake.

You see, that so-called "unlimited" data (or data roaming while abroad) you pay for is a scam because it's actually way slower than true 4G LTE internet.

And if these networks get busy (or use too much data, they slow you down even more, because your phone IS NOT a priority for them.

So, what should you do? It is possible to avoid these limitations, but ONLY if a device is whitelisted as "priority" for the network providers.

How can you avoid these limitations?

Right now, there are only two of these kinds of devices that allow you to get whitelisted as a priority, so you can stay online wherever you go. The first, are the LTE hotspots like those used by the military and police. They fit in the palm of your hand, and are designed to ensure a stable connection on the move.

The second is available for us regular folks. There's different kinds, so you can chose based on your liking.

Here's why I chose Ryoko instead of other brands...

I've travelled to over 14 different countries this year, and I’ve NEVER had ANY network issues with Ryoko.

It delivers consistently FAST internet while camping, even for as many as 10 different devices at once! So if I want to connect my smartphone, laptop and tablet, I can do so without any issues. And when I'm travelling with family, my wife and son can connect their devices too without any loss of performance or internet speed.

It’s also WAY cheaper than using regular roaming networks, and doesn't drain your phone's battery. It could even save your life while travelling, if it means the difference between a dead, overheated battery and the means to easily call for help when you need it.

I also found heaps of positive reviews. Check them out below:

I love it. i use it in my family summer house and on road trips. Everywhere connection is fast and great! I love that the design focuses on portability.. It is very light, small and stylish, and easy to hold in my hand or pocket. It brings Internet to the most remote places, woods, lakes.

Absolutely looove my ryoko😍😍😍! My cousin lent me hers and I tried it while camping. the connection was consistently fast and reliable; even though it was quite a remote area of the woods. I really liked how portable ryoko is, super light, didn’t take up any space in our backpacks..battery life also exceeded my expectations, lasted more than 8h. I was even able to enjoy the game on my tablet while fishing with my dad at the lake. Got home and immediately bought one for me and my husband.

The connection is fast and hardly ever patchy, even in the mountaints, it blew my mind. It's super light, and the battery life really exceeded my expectations. I can't imagine traveling without it! It's a MUST if you're outdoors a lot. my wife got one as well. She says that it was super easy to set up, which she did not expect because she's not a big techie.

Where Can I Get Ryoko?

As far as I know, Ryoko is only available online. You can buy it by going to the Ryoko website.

UPDATE

I shared my experience with the Ryoko team, and they were so happy to hear about it, that they decided to give away some of their revolutionary new devices to my readers for 70% less than the usual cost!

Just stumbled upon this Ryoko gadget, and I'm seriously considering it! My last trip burned a hole in my pocket. Just got my bill, and it feels like I've paid for a luxury vacation. Wish I had known about this gem earlier. Anyone here using it? Does it really live up to the hype?? Need a better solution ASAP

Service works well! Have used it across Europe. Thank you, Ryoko!

I find it useful everywhere. If there's cell towers, there's internet. Often it is better than the local wifi - even in airports. I travel the world, it's my passion, so my Ryoko and I are inseparable. It is one of the 5 must have things in my carry on! 😊

Seriously regretting not having something like Ryoko on my last trip..international data charges are a nightmare 😓tried all the big name mobile providers and all of them drain my wallet while trvaleing

It absolutely has a home in my travel bag when I'm heading out for a road trip. Everywhere connection is fast and great Bob

THIS device literally SAVED my life when I was backpacking accross Europe!

I'm sold on the idea of having a reliable pocket sized router. I always end up packing too much, so if it can fit in my pocket, I can work with that. The fact that it covers 112 countries is a MASSIVE plus!!
