UPDATE - Ryoko Pro is currently on a MASSIVE SALE. The stock is running out, but it may still be available on the website HERE.
I want to be upfront about something: I am not a tech person.
So when my son first showed me this little device and said it would replace my home internet โ and save me over a hundred dollars a month โ I laughed at her.
"Dorothy," she said, using my full name the way she does when she means business, "just try it for one week."
That was eight months ago. I haven't gone back.
For years I paid Comcast $127 a month for internet. A hundred and twenty-seven dollars.
I used it to video call my grandkids, check the weather, and look up recipes maybe twice a week. That's it. I'm not streaming movies. I don't play games online. I just needed something basic and reliable.
But my only option in my area was the local cable company, and they knew it. Every year the bill crept up a little more. I called to cancel once, and the man on the phone kept me on hold for 40 minutes before transferring me to someone who offered me a "loyalty discount" that somehow still came out to $112 a month.
After about a month, I did the math. I'm a retired librarian โ I've always been good with numbers, even if not technology.
Comcast: $127/month ร 12 months = $1,524 a year.
Ryoko Pro: under $9.95/month for unlimited data. T
I was paying almost $1,300 more every year for internet I barely used.
For a retired person on a fixed income, that is not a small number. That's several months of groceries. That's money I worked my whole life to save, going straight to a cable company that didn't earn it.
I felt trapped. You know that feeling.
My son started dropping off her kids every other weekend last year. Ella is 7, Marcus is 9, and honestly the moment they walk in the door, the first thing out of their mouths is: "Grandma, we need Wi-Fi!โ
My internet connection was so bad, that half the time, the connection would drop while they were in the middle of something, and they'd come find me like I personally turned off the internet.
I knew it mattered to them. And when the WiFi was slow or kept cutting out, it made their time here feel... less good. Which made me feel bad.
I wanted them to love coming to Grandma's. I wanted it to be easy. I just didn't know how to fix it.
He put it on my kitchen table, and I thought it was a hand sanitizer. It's that small.
He turned it on โ one button โ and then handed me her phone and said, "Look for the WiFi network called Ryoko_Pro and connect to it." I did. And that was it. I was online.
No installation. No waiting for a technician. No reading a manual. No calling a helpline and being put on hold for half an hour.
He told me what it was: a little pocket router that runs on a phone network, like the one in your cell phone, but dedicated just to giving you WiFi. The SIM card was already included. I didn't need to do anything with it. Just turn it on.
Then he told me that the plan she got me was unlimited data โ no worrying about running out, no overage fees, no confusing tiers. Just always-on internet for a flat monthly rate. Way less than what I was paying Comcast.
The next time Ella and Marcus came over, I didn't say anything. I just made sure the Ryoko was turned on and sitting on the counter.
Within five minutes, Ella looked up from her phone with wide eyes. "Grandma, your WiFi is so fast now."
Marcus had connected his tablet, Ella had her phone, I had my iPad open to video call my son in Phoenix โ all at the same time โ and nobody's connection was slow. Nobody complained once.
That whole weekend was different. They settled in. They stayed longer. At one point Marcus asked me if I wanted to watch something on his tablet with him, and we sat there together for an hour. I don't know if that would have happened with the old internet situation.
Ella called me "the coolest grandma" in a text to her mom that night. My son Josh screenshotted it and sent it to me. I printed it out.
I know it sounds like a small thing. But at 71, having your granddaughter think you're cool? That means something.
My friend Carol asked me this when I told her about it. Carol is 73 and says she still doesn't fully understand how to attach a photo to an email.
I told her the honest truth: if you can turn on a lamp, you can use this.
There is one button. You press it. A little light comes on. You go to the WiFi settings on your phone or tablet like you normally would, pick Ryoko_Pro from the list, type in the password printed on the back of the device, and you're done.
That's the entire setup. I've done it for Carol twice when she came over. The second time, she did it herself. She was delighted.
You don't need to call anyone. You don't need a technician. You don't need to wait. You don't need to understand how it works. It just works.
I take it with me now.
That wasn't something I planned. I just threw it in my purse one day when I was going to sit at the park and read, and realized I could look things up whenever I wanted without using my phone data.
I took it on my trip to visit my son in Phoenix. Didn't worry once about paying for hotel WiFi or whether the airport connection was safe. Just turned on my Ryoko and had my own private internet the whole trip.
I used it at the doctor's office waiting room. At my church's book club. At my sonโs house when her internet was down one evening.
It fits in the front pocket of my purse. I barely notice it's there โ until I need it, and then I'm very glad it's there.
I've been telling everyone I know about this thing. Here's who I think would love it most:
Anyone paying $80, $100, $120+ a month for home internet and barely using it โ the savings alone are worth it.
Grandparents whose grandkids visit and always need WiFi โ connect up to 10 devices at once. Phones, tablets, laptops, all of them, all at the same time.
Anyone who travels and doesn't want to pay for hotel WiFi or worry about roaming charges. It works in over 170 countries.
Anyone who's been meaning to cancel their cable internet but felt stuck. This is your way out.
I am not the kind of person who buys gadgets. I am also not the kind of person who writes reviews or tells strangers on the internet about products I like.
But when I posted something about this in my neighborhood Facebook group last month, I got 47 comments in two days. People my age, people a little younger, people who've been stuck in the same overpriced cable contracts I was in โ all wanting to know more.
So I figured I'd write up everything I know and put it somewhere people could find it.
Here's my bottom line: I'm 71, I'm not a tech person, and I've saved over $1,200 this year. My grandkids love coming over. I've traveled with it. My friends Carol and Bernadette both have one now too.
If I can do it, you can do it.
I'll put the link below for the same place I ordered mine โ they're still running the sale. If you've been thinking about it, just try it. You have 30 days to return it if you don't love it. You won't need to.

I love it, used this summer in europe. Just use sim card in country you're traveling. Up to 10 devices can connect. I even watched my TV on it. Make sure you have power bank with you in case you run out of battery.
It's been doing a proper job with connection and whatnot. I use it when I'm working from any place other than my home (and when I am working, I don't have to do much online, I check emails, reply to some, etc). So I can see how for some people it definitely wouldn't be a good option.
My order arrived ahead of time. I highly recommend this for anyone- looking for a portable wireless router. It works fantastic, make sure you purchase an additional sim card monthly or yearly and never run out of storage.
I've used a Ryoko in Italy, where it worked like a charm. Sincerely recommend!
This RYOKO unit is amazing! Charged and ready out of box, QR code, and WOW! Full Connection access, fast, easy! Perfect! This product is the future. RV, traveling, no problem!
Can I get a discount if I buy 4 devices at once??
